DESCRIPTION:
The Wellesley Centers for Women (WCW) at Wellesley College is seeking
a fulltime economist with expertise on gender. The person in this
position will bring her/his own research program. She/he will also
collaborate with other WCW researchers to build on prior national and
international work at the Centers on women, children, and public
policy.=20
WCW is a policy oriented research center funded primarily by grants

funding for two years is in place for this position. Partial support

(2) Visiting Scholar in Feminist Perspectives on Globalization / The
International Development Research Centre (IRDC) - Carleton

DESCRIPTION:
The Pauline Jewett Institute of Women's and Gender Studies (Carleton
University) and the Institute of Women's Studies (University of
Ottawa), with the support of the International Development Research
Centre (IDRC), are pleased to launch the second phase of the research
programme on Feminist Perspectives on Globalization. This two-year
(2008-2010) programme offers highly qualified researchers working on
issues of globalization from a feminist perspective, from developing
countries in Africa, the Middle East, Asia, Latin America, the
Caribbean and the South Pacific, the opportunity to spend a research
term in Ottawa based at one of the two universities.
The Visiting Scholar in Feminist Perspectives on Globalization will
contribute to gender and development research at both universities
and provide a unique opportunity for collaboration between feminist
scholars in Canada and the developing world and between North and
South. The Pauline Jewett Institute of Women's and Gender Studies
and the Institute of Women's Studies will alternate in welcoming one
visiting scholar per year. However, both Institutes look forward to
the opportunity of engaging with the Visiting Scholar.

Applications are invited for the 2008-2009 Visiting Scholar in
Feminist Perspectives on Globalization to be based at the Pauline
Jewett Institute of Women's and Gender Studies at Carleton
University. (In 2009-2010, the Visiting Scholar will be based at the
University of Ottawa Institute of Women's Studies.).
REQUIREMENTS:=20
The position is open to scholars from developing countries (both
tenured and untenured faculty, as well as post-doctoral or
independent scholars) who are pursuing critical feminist research.
Applicants must be fluent in English, have a completed PhD, a record
of scholarly publications, and a current and established research
project in relation to one or more of the research fields listed
below. Individuals currently pursuing a university doctoral degree
are not eligible.
THE FOCUS:
The focus of the Feminist Perspectives on Globalization programme is
on the broad area of the "rights." The theme of Feminist Perspectives
on Globalization targets rights and citizenship of women and girls in
a globalized context. This focus on citizenship is conceptualized
broadly as an interdisciplinary inquiry whereby investigators explore
the multiple layers of citizenship through matrices of social power
in its various cultural, national and transnational contexts. Some
areas of interest include the gendered dimensions of citizenship and
rights in the following thematic areas: peace, conflict and
reconstruction; migration; health; education; environment; and
economic security. The continuation of the Visiting Scholar program
with a focus on citizenship and globalization is a timely and
important initiative.
MORE DETAILS:
During their stay in Canada, the Visiting Scholar will pursue and
present their ongoing research in conferences and seminars as
requested, participate in outreach activities, and produce a paper
based on their ongoing research which reflects their time and work in
Canada. It is anticipated that this research will promote policy
advocacy and/or further gender and development studies and the
effective integration of gender equality into development policy and
programming.

The duration of the Visiting Scholar's stay will be a six (6) month
period within the university's 2008-2009 academic year, which runs
from September 2008 to April 2009. The recipient will receive a
generous stipend to cover travel, research and living expenses
(including medical insurance coverage). The successful applicant will
have access to library services, a shared phone and computer
facilities.

DESCRIPTION:
The Outreach and Business Development Team (OBDT) is responsible for
proactively driving the strategic positioning of UNIFEM so that the
size, sources and predictability of its resources help the
organization achieve its strategic goals.=20
Under the supervision of the Resource Mobilization Specialist-Lead,
and in collaboration with OBDT colleagues, the Resource
Mobilization Specialist-Governments is responsible for effectively
implementing resource mobilization strategies on behalf of UNIFEM
with Member States to increase UNIFEM's regular and non-core resource
base.

The Resource Mobilization Specialist-Governments works closely with
Partnership and Communications colleagues to ensure that
implementation of resource mobilization and partnerships strategies,
campaigns and initiatives involving Member States are aligned and
mutually reinforcing. The incumbent works closely with Communications
and Advocacy colleagues to position UNIFEM with Member States so as
to increase their financial support for UNIFEM. S/he supports the
Resource Mobilization Specialist-Lead in ensuring effective donor
relations with Member States.

UNIFEM HQ Sections and Field Offices to implement resource
mobilization strategies, initiatives and campaigns with Member

SUMMARY:
The UNIFEM sub regional office (SRO) in Delhi covers the following=20
countries in South Asia: Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal,
Pakistan, Sri Lanka. The SRO is the driver of UNIFEM's collaboration
with key national and regional partners and a broad range of regional
and national women's networks.=20
The UNIFEM Regional Programme Director (RPD) is the front line
contact for UNIFEM. The RPD conceptualizes and oversees all
UNIFEM-supported programmes and partnerships. The RPD represents
UNIFEM in UN Country teams (UNCTs) in the region, working closely
with the UN Resident Coordinators (RC).=20
SELECTED RESPONSIBILITIES:

BACKGROUND:
The Government of Bangladesh ratified the Convention on the
Elimination of All forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) in
1984 with initial reservations to 4 articles. Later on, reservations
to 2 articles were withdrawn during the presentation of its third and
fourth periodic reports in July 1997. While the reservations to two
more articles are still holding, in 2000, Bangladesh was one of the
first 10 countries to ratify the Optional Protocol to the Convention.
UNIFEM has been active in supporting the member states to implement
CEDAW obligations and its monitoring in various countries of the
South Asia region since 1999 bringing together South Asian
governments, the civil society and the CEDAW Committee members as
stakeholders. UNIFEM Bangladesh office initiated the CEDAW component
in its programme since August 2007.=20
RESPONSIBILITIES:
-- Coordinate and assist in the smooth functioning and development
of the CEDAW component of the work=20
-- Assist the Programme Manager on all programme and
administrative issues by providing necessary inputs into the
programme and its management

UNIFEM is the women's fund at the United Nations, it provides
financial and technical assistance to innovative approaches aimed at
fostering women's empowerment and gender equality.=20
The UNIFEM Program Office has been set up in Dhaka, Bangladesh, to
initiate various projects and program in close collaboration with the
Ministry of Women's Affairs, Government of Peoples Republic of
Bangladesh, on Gender Issues.=20
UNIFEM Bangladesh has been implementing the regional programme on
Empowering Women Migrant Workers in Asia since 2006. The regional
programme takes a gender and rights based development approach to
addressing the concerns of women migrant workers and ensuring the

The Program Assistant's primary function is to provide technical and
administrative support to the Gender Team programme staff in their
project implementation and coordination duties including arranging
logistics for travel, conferences, seminars, and annual retreats.=20
The Program Assistant will support the Gender Team programme staff,
the Practice Manager, and the Operations Manager/Finance Officer in
Project Procurement, Budget, and Finance responsibilities in Atlas.=20
The Program Assistant will also work in close collaboration with the

of the team is completed.
The Program Assistant actively supports knowledge building, sharing
and applying in the organization. The incumbent will need to

overall guidance of the Practice Manager.
