Welcome to the APWW-Meet
An announcement list of the Asia Pacific Women Watch network
working for the advancement of the status of women.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
To Whom It May Concern:
I don't know why I got your message but it is the first time for me to
learn about your
upcoming Forum. And I agree, Pacific women must be included,
although some
might have already been invited.
I suggest that every effort is made to invite Pacific women,
especially people like
Hilda Lini (head of the Pacific Resources Centre, based in Suva);
Shamima Ali of
the Fiji Crisis Women's Centre; Betty Blake, of the Catholic
Women's Group in
Tonga; etc. I also think that the meeting might benefit from the
views of academic
women (yes, there are quite a few in the Pacific) who themselves
are members of
NGOs but would have a slightly different view of women's issues
since some of
them have been able to theorise their own situations and
contextualise their
problems, rather than use the well-worn, often irrelevant, models
developed by
western, middle class women. The following people would make
useful
contribution: Susana Tuisawau (SG of the Council for Pacific
Education; Dr. 'Ana
Taufe'ulungaki, Director of the Institute of Education, University of
the South Pacific
(this is NOT a Fiji but a regional institution); Tili Afamasaga, Dean
of Education,
National University of Samoa; Dr. Lia Maka, Centre lecturer, USP
Centre in Tonga;
Ms Marjorie Crocombe, Rarotonga, Cook Islands; etc.
Let me know if you want some more names!!!
Best
Konai
